biography
Youngest – and fourth – son of a southeasterner from Minas Gerais and a northeasterner from Pernambuco, I was born in Belo Horizonte in 1970. In my childhood, I used to secretly glance at my father, an accomplished surgeon, a charismatic being, humane and a bit on the clouds, whistling and simulating with his hands the movements of the batons of a maestro…I think these are the first images connected to art which I can recall. My mother, on the other hand, affectionate, and widowed at a very young age, had both feet on the ground. Sensitive and persistent, always coped with life’s jolts.
In my adolescence, I had a rather erotic fall for psychiatry; I loved books and lived in the movie theaters. Later on came Journalism School and, then, photography.
The first photos, in the 90s, were for newspapers, but soon I moved on to Advertising. In 2000, I took a decision that would change my way forward; I went back to being a photographer’s assistant and moved on to São Paulo. I made great friends, had many masters and a great deal of resilience, too. I usually say that São Paulo was generous to me, my horizon expanded.
At the present I work at commissioned projects, being it in advertising, editorials or photo shootings for journalism. I am constantly reflecting upon the issues that bother me and express my thoughts and feelings about them through photographic series. In the last year, some of these series have been exposed at art biennial events, festivals and contemporary art fairs as well as being permanently incorporated to the collections of museums and art galleries.
It is a privilege to work telling stories. Finally, I am the father of a young girl, my best story, I think! And for these and other reasons I believe I am a luck guy..
